Donald L. Fordham, MD, FAAFP was installed as President of the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians at the 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting on November 10th.
“Our organization will greatly benefit having Dr. Fordham as its new president,” said Loy D. “Chip” Cowart, MD, FAAFP outgoing president of GAFP. “We have all seen his determination for family physicians across Georgia for many years, and he is a leader both in his community, his patients and the physician community.”
As part of his inaugural comments, Dr. Fordham stated, “I look forward to working with the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians on behalf of all family physicians across the state and will continue to build on the incredible progress Dr. Cowart has achieved during his tenure as President of our academy. His dedication and leadership have been invaluable to the GAFP and inspiring to me personally. We all truly appreciate his service.”
Dr. Fordham is a solo family physician, at Habersham Family Medicine – recognized as an NCQA Patient Centered Medical Home. He also currently teaches at the Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership as a Clinical Associate Professor.
Dr. Fordham received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and then completed his family medicine residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Huntsville Family Medicine. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry with honors – summa cum laude. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine.
Dr. Fordham has served as 2017-2018 President-Elect of the GAFP. Prior to this position he served as both Speaker and Vice Speaker of the Georgia Academy’s Congress of Delegates. He is currently a member of the Georgia Physician Leadership Academy.
Following his presidency, Dr. Fordham will serve as Chairman of the Board of the Directors for the 2019-2020 year.
