Kate Heilpern, MD is Emory’s Chair of the Emergency Department, but for three years, she did double duty by also serving as the Interim Department Chair of Family Medicine. This fall, Emory selected Dr. Ted Johnson to be the Family and Preventive Medicine Department Chair, and Dr. Heilpern went back to her “day job.” However, the Georgia Academy wanted to thank her for her service to family medicine during her time leading the team at Emory. She moved family medicine forward, and President Wayne Hoffman, MD met with her recently to bestow a plaque of appreciation for her service.
