The Georgia Academy of Family Physicians is seeking submissions for the Annual Research Poster Presentation to be held Saturday, November 15, 2014, during the GAFP’s Annual Scientific Assembly.

Posters presented may be research results, case reports, summer projects, or educational projects.  Posters may address any topic relevant to family medicine.  Submissions must be of original work not yet published or presented at regional or national meetings.  Medical student projects previously presented at medical schools or student “Research Days” are accepted. Concurrent submissions to other conferences such as NAPCRG and STFM are considered legitimate and are, in fact, encouraged.  Submissions are for poster presentations.

CRITERIA: Submissions from medical students, pre-med students, residents and practicing physicians/fellows are welcome. Students who have participated in summer preceptorship programs are especially encouraged to submit a poster on their summer experience.

Submission Format:

Entry Form-    One entry form should be completed for each abstract and poster submission.

Abstract-         One copy of an abstract should be submitted with an electronic copy of your poster. The abstract should be no longer than 250 words.  (“Works in progress”, shell tables and omission of “discussion” section are acceptable).  Email entry form, abstract, and electronic copy of your poster to the GAFP 3760 LaVista Road, Suite 100, Tucker, GA 30084 or email aflanigan@gafp.org.

Please note: If your poster is accepted for presentation, you are responsible for bringing and mounting your posters at the Westin Buckhead Atlanta on Thursday, November 13th– 3pm-6pm OR Friday, November 14th 7am-5pm. The GAFP will supply the poster board and pins for mounting.  Please do not ship your posters to the GAFP office.

Review:

All submissions will be reviewed by a minimum of three (3) members of the Education & Research Committee.  Posters will be judged for awards at the time of presentation at the meeting.  Review will focus on the following:

  1. Significance of findings for practicing family physicians;
  2. Quality of presentation of findings; and,
  3. Quality of methods used to generate findings.

In instances in which the above criteria do not apply, reviewers will seek to evaluate the extent to which the submitted presentation will be of interest to family physicians.

Selection Process

Each submission will be reviewed by a panel of judges and finalists will be notified via email by Friday, October 24th.

Presentation Format:
