CALL FOR POSTERS

Abstract Submission Deadline: September 6, 2023
Poster Submission Deadline: October 6, 2023

Criteria/Who Can Participate:

Submissions from Pathway to Medical School (Pre-Med) students, GAFP members who are medical students, residents and practicing physicians/fellows are all welcome to submit.

Posters presented may be research results, case reports, summer projects, or educational projects. Posters may address any topic relevant to family medicine. Submissions must be of original completed work not yet published or presented at regional or national meetings. Concurrent (2023) submissions to other conferences such as the North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG) and Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) are encouraged. Medical student projects previously presented at medical schools or on student “Research Days” are accepted.

How it Works:

Step 1

Complete Online Application Form

Please complete the online abstract submission form. One form should be completed for each abstract submission. The abstract should be no longer than 250 words. All abstracts submitted will be accepted and invited to submit their poster for electronic review, judging and in-person display at GAFP’s Annual Family Medicine CME Weekend.

Step 2

Submit Poster Electronically

GAFP has partnered with ePostersLive, an online solution, to collect your electronic poster submission. After the abstract submission deadline, ePostersLive will contact you with instructions to upload your electronic poster. Please note presenters are also responsible for bringing a physical rendition of their poster on-site. Posters will also be visible on the ePostersLive website during and after the meeting.

Step 3

Poster Review and Judging
All abstracts will be reviewed and judged virtually in advance of the meeting. Review will focus on the following:

    • Significance of findings for practicing family physicians.
    • Quality of presentation of findings.
    • Quality of methods used to generate findings.

In instances in which the above criteria do not apply, reviewers will seek to evaluate the extent to which the submitted presentation will be of interest to family physicians.

Step 4
Award Notification

All participants will be notified via email no later than Wednesday, October 25 and winners will be requested to make a brief 10–15-minute presentation on Friday, November 10.

One award will be given for the best poster in the following categories:

  • Pre-Med Students (one $500 award)
  • Medical Students (one $500 award)
  • Residents (one $500 award)
  • Practicing Physician/Fellow (1 recognition award)

Please note if there are multiple presenters for a winning poster, the main author/contact will be responsible for sharing the award equally. A listing of all winning posters will be published in a GAFP newsletter following the November meeting.

Step 5

Display your Poster Onsite

Participants are responsible for bringing and mounting their posters. Posters should be designed to fit a space no larger than 36” tall x 48” wide. The GAFP will supply the pins for mounting. Please do not ship your posters to the GAFP office. Posters will be displayed in the Social & Information Hub on Friday, November 10 from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM. Participants must be present to defend their research, which should be presented in a concise, thorough, and knowledgeable manner.

Onsite Schedule at a Glance: Friday, November 10, 2023

  • 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM – All submitted posters will be on display in the Social & Information Hub and presenters are responsible for bringing a physical rendition of their poster onsite and being present to defend their research.
